Setting Passing Score

You can set passing scores ("minimum normalized measure" in SCORM terminology) manually at the leaf item level, the folder level, and/or the activity level. Scores from the leaf level are, by default, rolled up to the folder level to determine a composite score: in other SCORM versions. The SCO itself may indicate a passing score: if so, that is used in place of the passing score set in the LMS.

An individual user's reported or achieved score is compared to the defined passing score to determine the user's status (that is, whether the user passed or failed the learning activity).

SCORM content can report to the LMS any combination of score/no score and status/no status, but how the LMS uses that data varies.

If the SCORM content reports...

Then...

just the user's score

that score is compared to the passing score set in the LMS to determined the pass/fail status

just the user's status (pass/fail)

that status is used in the LMS only when the passing score has not been specified for the item (otherwise, the status will be indicated as "unknown")

both the user's score and the user's status

the user's status will be used if a passing score has not been specified for the item or if the content is SCORM 1.2 and Use score to determine status even if content saves status explicitly option is cleared; otherwise, the score is compared to the passing score set in the LMS to determine the pass/fail status even if the results differ from what was reported by the SCO

Setting or changing a passing score takes effect immediately, but does not affect the results of previous attempts.
